On November 28, known as nationally as Giving Tuesday, donors will have a chance to support a number of nonprofits throughout Cattaraugus County and help them earn local prize money as part of the first-ever day of giving in Cattaraugus County, Cattaraugus Gives.
The Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation will lead Cattaraugus Gives as part of the highly successful #NYGIVESDAY program. Local participation is open to any 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization in Cattaraugus County.
Donors will have the opportunity to support a number of nonprofits in Cattaraugus County during the exciting 24-hour giving event simply by making a gift at nygivesday.org.
CRCF will be offering prize money, up to $5,000, to participating organizations, said CRCF Executive Director Karen Niemic Buchheit.
“The CRCF board of directors has been considering hosting a giving day for quite some time now,” Buchheit remarked. “We are thrilled to lead the first-ever Cattaraugus Gives on Giving Tuesday this year.”
“Cattaraugus Gives will be a celebration of the nonprofits who support the vitality of our region and the donors who so generously support them,” Buchheit added. “Our board thought it such an essential idea that they approved up to $5,000 for cash prizes to participating organizations.”
Prize money will be available to nonprofits of all sizes, rather than be contingent upon who can raise the most money, she added.
“The prizes will be fun and encourage friendly competition among participating organizations,” she said.
Established in 1994, the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation is growing good by connecting donors to the causes they care about most in the region. Grants from the foundation support many areas, including education, scholarships, health care, the arts, community development, human service, and youth development.
