The Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation’s board of directors recently approved grants from two funds established by Paul and Betty Hanson to support local first responders, a local dialysis center and hospital, and a library.
The Paul and Mary Janowicz Fund provided three grants of $150 each to three organizations selected by the fund advisors – the Great Valley Volunteer Fire Department, the Marie Lorenz Dialysis Center Fund at the Olean General Hospital Foundation and the Olean Public Library.
Paul and Betty Hanson of Olean established the fund in 2014 in memory of Betty’s parents, Paul and Mary Janowicz. The fund also provides an annual scholarship to an Ellicottville Central School student.
The Paul and Betty Hanson Fund made possible three grants of $200 each to Mercy Flight of Western New York, the Town of Olean Fire Department and the Olean General Hospital Foundation.
The Hansons also established a scholarship in 2016 for Olean High School students pursuing a post-secondary degree in the trade or technical field.
“Selfless, generous people like the Hansons are pillars of our community,” said Karen Niemic Buchheit, CRCF executive director. “Their endowment funds will provide ongoing financial support to important organizations that strengthen our communities and help students, patients, friends and neighbors alike.”
