SPCA’s Seasonal “PAWtique” Now Open

From the SPCA in Cattaraugus County

When the snow flies and Olean-area merchants decorate for this holiday season, you know it’s time to look for the SPCA store!  This year, it’s located at the Olean Center Mall, directly across from Cindy’s Craft Co-Op, and opens Saturday, November 18th.   Hours are Friday  4 – 7 p.m., Saturday 1 – 7 p.m. and Sundays 1 – 3 p.m. (Christmas Eve until 3 p.m.).

The store is jam-packed with beautiful and unique items, reflecting the labors and talents of area artisans.  Pottery, crochet, knit wear and Christmas wreaths are available.  “Jewelry by Judy” pendants and pins are one-of-a-kind, and the artist will be on-site to work with customers to design special orders.

New/ nearly-new items offered include everything from small vintage Japanese music boxes to large office chairs from Olean Standard.

Dogs will appreciate our collection of most unique (and ugliest) items:  turkey feet!  Locally sourced from Sprague’s and smoked by a generous volunteer, they’re one huge treat to fill a pooch’s stocking.

The “crowning glory” of our “nearly new” goods is actually 60 years old….and not even located  in our store!  It’s a vintage Singer Model 201 sewing machine, on display at Olean Singer/Janome Sewing Center.  It’s considered one of the best straight-stitch machines ever made, and it purrs along beautifully after Fred LaBella reconditioned it.  Ron Filjones is displaying it on his floor, so shoppers can ask questions and buy with confidence.   Although it sells elsewhere for $200-300, we didn’t price it; a customer may pay more (after all, someone recently insisted on paying us $1,000 for a pizza!).  Bids will be taken up to Dec. 17th.

Once this Singer sells, its selling price will be matched by an anonymous donor…so we encourage you to buy it for Christmas!

A CUTCO Galley Kitchen Knife Set, and CUTCO Garden Tool Set with Bag are just one of the many nice baskets we’re raffling off.    Gift-wrapping will be done by our experienced  “ace” team that’s up for any size/shape challenge.

Always popular, SPCA cats will be on hand to meet our feline-friendly visitors, hoping to be adopted into loving homes.

Do you play an instrument?  Sing?  If you do, we invite you to perform in our store!  We will provide a welcoming  atmosphere, if you provide the talent!  Please call Mimi at 372-4387 to line up a half-hour slot.  We’re also inviting area singing groups to come a-caroling up and down the Mall.  Along with our business neighbors there, we look forward to the festive, joyous air that only the “sound of music” can bring!

So please join us, and encourage your customers to do so too!  We hope to cultivate mutual goodwill and awareness of the SPCA’s role in the rescue and care of needy animals in Cattauraugus County.

All proceeds of this “PAWtique” will go toward the tens of thousands of dollars needed to purchase and install an HVAC  (heating/ventilation/air-conditioning) system.    We cherish our business, professional, and individual friends in our community; we want you to know how much your support, not just now but in the past, is genuinely, continuously appreciated.
