Six area graduates recently received athletics-related scholarships via the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.

Gabreall Milligan and Sarah Jordan of Olean received the JF20 Scholarship for $250 each.

Established by former Olean High School graduate and star football player Julio Fuentes, the JF20 Scholarship Fund exists to provide scholarships for graduating seniors from Olean High School who participated on a varsity sports team with preference for a football player.

Milligan will study aviation at Bowling Green State University. Jordan will study early childhood education at St. Bonaventure University.

Elizabeth Drum of Cuba-Rushford received the Kaleigh Wilday Scholar Athlete Award.

This scholarship of $1,000 is awarded to a scholar athlete who is part of a scholar-athlete team during her or his senior year. The Cuba-Rushford Athletic Awards Committee chooses the recipient of the scholar-athlete award, which includes the $1,000 scholarship.

The Kaleigh Wilday Endowment Fund, established by Cuba residents Ward “Skip” and Greta Wilday in memory of their daughter, makes possible this annual award.

Drum will study nursing at St. John Fisher University.

Randolph’s David Root received the Patrick Shinners Memorial Team Player Scholarship for $500.

Established in memory of Salamanca-native Patrick Shinners by the Southwestern Chapter of the New York State Association of Certified Football Officials, this award is for players in Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties who are a graduating senior and have participated in football for at least one school year. The ideal candidate is a player who was there for the team; a player who was not the team hero, but who came to practice knowing that he may not be in the game on Friday night. All applicants for the award are nominated by their high school football coaches.

Root will attend Alfred University to study glass engineering.

Amy Campbell was awarded the Louis W. Ensworth Charitable Foundation Trust Scholarship for $500.

This scholarship fund, established by Louis Ensworth, is for a deserving student participating in the girls’ basketball program at Olean High School.

Campbell plans to attend Alfred State College.

Aaron Vincent of Olean received the OHS Walter L. Reisner Unsung Lineman Award for $500.

This scholarship is funded through the Walt and Ruth Reisner Fund, established as an endowment by Ruth Reisner in memory of her late husband, Walt Reisner. The award is for a graduating OHS varsity football letter winner. The scholarship is named for Walter L. Reisner, Walt’s grandfather, a standout Olean football player who went on to play at Muhlenberg College, where he was honored as a member of the all-time Muhlenberg football team.

Vincent will study business administration at Jamestown Community College.

Tyler Babb of Olean received the Big 30 12th Man Scholarship for $500.

The 12th Man Scholarship is for a graduating senior who has participated in a high school football program for four years and has displayed exceptional effort and has been valuable to the program.

Babb will study computer-aided design at Jamestown Community College.
