Thirteen recent area graduates recently received the Gregory D. Spring Perseverance Scholarship, an annual scholarship managed by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.
Colton Boser, Gracie Amore, Kevin Edwards-Hardy and Robert Casey, all of Allegany-Limestone Central School, as well as Portville’s Shaela Spring, Hailey Studley and Dayton Shaw all received awards this year.
Joining them are Olean’s Preston Conner and Payton Reynolds, Hinsdale’s Arreil Keesler and William Benatovich of Ellicottville. Franklinville’s Tyyetta Herman and Luciana Marchese also received awards.
Established in memory of Gregory Spring of Allegany by his family, this scholarship is available to graduating seniors of Olean High School, Allegany-Limestone, Portville, Ten Broeck Academy/Franklinville Central School, Ellicottville Central School and Hinsdale Central schools pursuing a degree or certification, preferably, in a trade or technical program.
Boser will attend Universal Technical Institute of Orlando to study motorcycle technology. Amore will attend the University of Pittsburgh to study psychology. Edwards-Hardy will attend the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford to study health and physical education. Casey will attend Jamestown Community College to study business.
Spring plans to study software engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology. Studley plans to study psychology at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. Shaw will attend SUNY Erie Community College to study autobody repair.
Conner plans to attend SUNY Oswego to study criminal justice. Reynolds will study nursing at Jamestown Community College. Keesler will study education at St. Bonaventure University. Benatovich will attend St. Bonaventure University to study physical education.
Herman will attend Bowling Green State University to study exercise science. Marchese will attend Bowling Green State University to study exercise science on a pre-physical therapy track.
The Spring scholarship has made possible over $65,000 in support for area students over the years.
