Tue, Oct 1st 2024 10:45 am

A friend to everyone, Tommy Moran was an inspiration to all who knew him.

A 2018 graduate of Allegany-Limestone High School, Tommy excelled on the gridiron, the baseball diamond and the basketball court. He represented New York in the 2018 Big 30 All-Star Charities Classic, where he played linebacker.

Tommy later attended Alfred State College, graduating Magna Cum Laude with the Sigma Tau Epsilon Certificate of Academic Distinction, and with an associate’s degree in electrical construction and electrical maintenance. After graduating, he worked as a maintenance electrician for Lidestri Foods in Rochester before moving back home to work as an electrician for the City of Olean.

Tommy’s charismatic personality, confidence and willingness to help others are just some of the highlights of what made him a remarkable young man.

“Through this scholarship, we hope to inspire future generations of students who, like Tommy, will go on to make a positive impact in their chosen fields and in the lives of those around them,” said Kirk Windus, CRCF executive director. “We are proud to partner with his family in creating this lasting tribute.”

This scholarship will continue Tommy’s memory in a meaningful way, ensuring that his spirit will make a positive impact on future Allegany-Limestone graduates.

The scholarship, which will make its first award in 2025, will go to a student who demonstrates financial need and intends to pursue a major in a trade/technical-related field of study or who plans to attend Alfred State College or any other trade/technical school; and/or has participated in athletics and demonstrated leadership in athletics during his/her high school career.

To honor Tommy’s memory and his character, his family shared this quote from the late Kobe Bryant:

“It’s the one thing you can control. You are responsible for how people remember you - or don’t. So don’t take it lightly.”
