One of our favorite things at the Foundation is learning about the success of past CRCF scholarship recipients. We recently had a chance to catch up with 2015 Daniel McCarthy Scholarship recipient and Archbishop Walsh Academy alumnus Christian Dougherty, who is up to some pretty amazing things! We wish him the best of luck as he finishes his degree at Bucknell University and starts his career at the very prestigious PricewaterhouseCoopers.
“During my time at Bucknell, I have been involved in a wide array of activities. During all four of my years here I have been a rower on the Bucknell Men’s Crew team, which I was a walk-on for when I got here, having no prior experience. Outside of rowing, I am also currently a teaching assistant for the course Management 101 in Bucknell’s College of Management, which is one of the college’s flagship courses where students create and manage a business with a product and a service mission over the course of a semester. Additionally, I am in the Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF), which is a two-semester course where students manage about $1.7 million of the school’s endowment while learning the challenges that come with running a small investment company.
This past summer I interned in PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Transaction Services – Financial Due Diligence (FDD) group in New York City. While there I learned about the FDD processes of analyzing and validating the underlying financial, commercial, operational, and strategic assumptions for mergers and acquisitions, with a focus primarily on deals in the pharmaceutical and life sciences industry. After graduation I will sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam, before returning to PricewaterhouseCoopers in New York City for a full-time position in FDD in fall 2018.”
Thank you so much for the Daniel McCarthy Scholarship. I am incredibly grateful that I have been able to receive this scholarship. To receive it is an incredible honor and a true blessing.
