Geoffrey Broadbent
Geoffrey Broadbent, a 2015 John J. Murphy Family Scholarship recipient, recently walked across to the commencement stage at St. Bonaventure University to receive a number of awards and honors, including one of the university’s most prestigious for a graduating student. The Olean High School graduate was named the 2019 Ideal Bonaventure Man.
The award is given to the male student who best exemplifies the spirit of St. Bonaventure and the ideals of St. Francis through community service and academic excellence.
After a look at Broadbent’s impressive resume, it’s easy to see why.
He was the Executive Board President of the Student Government Association, an Orientation Leader, a Resident Assistant, a Lead Student Ambassador, Secretary-General of Model United Nations, a volunteer EMT with the Medical Emergency Response Team, and the senior adviser for Phi Eta Sigma.
He also was selected as an undergraduate panelist at the New York State Political Science Association conference where he presented research on social determinants of health and how they relate to the efficiency of the United States healthcare system and represented St. Bonaventure at Student Aid Advocacy day lobbying in Albany on behalf of opportunity programs.
He also studied abroad in Italy for two weeks, focusing on international medical ethics and for six weeks in Spain through an immersion program.
After an undergraduate career of successes, Broadbent began medical school at George Washington University in 2020.
