Karly Welty
Karly Welty starred on the court and athletic field in high school at Portville Central School. A 2020, PCS grad, Welty was also a standout in the classroom. She received three scholarship awards from CRCF, the Big 30 Senior Classic Scholarship, Portville College Scholarship and Gregory D. Spring Perseverance Scholarship.
Attending Alfred University to study criminal justice, Welty is now continuing her success athletically and academically. As a member of the AU women’s basketball team, Welty featured in all nine contests for the Saxons in the 2020-21 season, starting in eight of those games. In 2020 she earned a team-high 20 steals, which ranked third in the conference. She had the second-highest total of offensive rebounds in the conference and led the team in assists.
Academically, she was a Saxon Scholar Athlete in fall of 2020 and spring of 2021, a member of the dean’s list in both semesters and was on the Empire 8 President’s List in both semesters as well.
Welty plans to pursue a master’s degree in business after getting her bachelor’s in criminal justice. She hopes to be a state trooper or serve a similar position in law enforcement in the future.
